Totally 2 sq. km of mountainous terrain area covered by dense vegetation were surveyed in just one flight!
As one of the pilots said, the area looked like a carpet of leaves from the sky. However, the density of the point cloud made it easy to perform automatic classification of terrain, vegetation, buildings and structures, power transmission poles and wires, which is not feasible with traditional photogrammetry methods.
It is even difficult to imagine how many hours and days it would require to survey this area with standard instrumental methods (total stations and RTK receivers).
We would like to make special reference to the high performance of the VTOL LIDAR system in hard-to-access terrain where access to the site makes it practically impossible to perform power lines monitoring and surveying from the ground.
